Fiery Jacks (Mark Berry, Mick Walker, Gordan Bradford, Ian Crossland) lead the way in Division 1 of Halifax Bowling Club’s winter league. After being promoted from Division 2 last season they are enjoying playing in the top division. However after two wins they found Pellon (Mick Bolton, David Gowing, David Agnew, Keith Barker) in determined mood as only Walker tasted success with a 21-11 success against Gowing, as Bolton restricted Berry 21-4, Agnew beat Bradford 21-18 and Barker defeated Crossland 21-12 as Pellon ran out 20-11 winners. Fiery Jacks still lead the division by 6 points over Mavericks.

Mavericks were indebted to Martin Forster, Steve Holmes and Peter Krenc who all registered wins against Fred Rothwell, Mark Benson and David Hemsley as Mavericks ran out 19-12 winners over Rabbits Revenge.

Clayhouse (Tom Harney, Andy Peel, Paul Gill, Ian Johnson) winners of the winter league for the last two seasons, are finding the going “tough” this season as they are 4th in the division. Their latest defeat was a 21-12 defeat by Lindley . Only Peel tasted success for Clayhouse as he beat Dickinson 21-17.

In Division 2 Four Play and Strollers, who were relegated from Division 1 at the end of last season are leading the way in the new season. Four Play (Ray Clegg, Danny Leather, Dave Russell, Keith Hanson) found themselves in a close encounter against Strollers (Pat Skene, Baz Morgan, Keith Hartley, Brian Pickles) in their latest league encounter. The sides finished with 2 wins each. Pat Skene beat Ray Clegg 21-20 and Brian Pickles defeated Hanson 21-20. For Four Play, Leather had an excellent 21-13 win against Morgan while Russell beat Hartley 21-16. Four Play ran out 20-17 winners to lead the division with 68 points from their 3 games played.

Unbelievabowl ( Sheridan Patterson, Susan Gee, Andrew Gee, Sandra Cooper) moved into second place in the division as they registered a 21-13 win against Halifax “Lightning”(Dave Culpan, Colleen Agnew, Gary Burke, Lynda Canning). Patterson, Andrew Gee and Cooper registered wins as Colleen Agnew was the lone winner for “Lightning” as she beat Susan Gee 21-18.

Halifax “Thunder” (Helen Smith, Carol Onions, Dave Onions, Steve Webster) had a close game against Blue Sox (Pat Grant, Peter Gregory, Peter Grant, Neil Dickie) with Blue Sox taking the honours by 19-14. Helen Smith gave an outstanding performance as she beat Pat Grant 21-7.
