The top game in week 3 of Halifax Bowling Club’s winter  league , was that in Division 2 where the two unbeaten teams Fiery Jacks (Gordon Bradford, Brian Needham, Ian Crossland, Mick Walker) and Simply the Best (Linda Gledhill, Julie Best, Lynn Carter, Julie Mallinson) were in opposition. Both teams were relegated last season and both teams are favourites to return to Division 1. Julie Best was the star performer for the all ladies team as she beat Needham 21-10, however her team mates could not rise to the challenge as Gledhill lost 21-16 against Bradford, Mallinson managed 17 points against Walker and Carter lost 21-10 to the corner bowling of Crossland. Fiery Jacks ran out 22-14 winners.

FieryJacks now lead the Division 2 table with 64 points from their 3 games played, Simply the Best are in second place with 59 points and Unbelievabowl have moved into third place on 56 points.

Kingston ( Stuart Sykes, Christine Midgley, Jack Straw, Colin Midgley) and Tykes (Ken Piggott, Michael Hutchinson, Patrick O’Connor, Gary Robinson) played out an exciting 17-16 win for Kingston.. Each team had two winners, Midgley and Shaw for Kingston and Piggott and Robinson for Tykes. The star performer for Kingston was Shaw who beat Tykes player O’Connor  21-9.

Halifax “Extra” were indebted to the husband and wife pairing of Kath and Steve Webster who won their games against Blue Sox (Avril Humberstone, Neil Dickie, Peter Gregory, Elspeth  Hartley). Kath Webster beat Dickie 21-15 and husband Steve defeated Hartley 21-18. Blue Sox ran out 18-14 winners.

In Division 1 the closest game was between Four Play (Keith Hanson, Derek Williamson, Ray Clegg, Geoff Hughes) and Pellon ( Robert Walker, M. Bolton, David Agnew,K. Barker). Four Play, near the top of the table found Bolton and Barker in fine form as Bolton beat Williamsom 21-19 and Barker beat Hughes 2-15 as Four Play ran out 19-17 winners to retain third spot in the Division 1 table.

Whirls Wizards (Martin Skuse, Shirley Dillingham, Robert Gartside, Lorraine Hirst) moved up to second place in  the division, one point behind Clayhouse with an emphatic 24-7 win over Strollers (Keith Hartley, Lesley Ellison, Glenda Hartley, Brian Pickles).

Clayhouse (Alan Peel, Peter Oliver, Ian Johnson, Tommy Harney) retained their lead at the top of the table with a 20-17 win against Lindley (Bob Morgan, Paul Cooney, Mark Sykes, Pete Hopkinson). Hopkinson was the game’s star player with a 21-10 won over Harney, and Morgan and Sykes managed to score 19 points against Peel and Johnson as Lindley gave their best performance of the season.

Mavericks (Jason Greenwood, Peter Krenc, Steve Holmes, Eric McGuinnes) are proving to be one of the success stories of the winter league. Their latest success was a 19-13 win against the experienced Rabbits Revenge (David Hemsley, D. Pollard, L. Harris, Trevor Hargreaves). Hemsley was the outstanding performer for Rabbits Revenge with a 21-6 win against Greenwood. Krence and McGinnis bowled superbly to restrict Pollard to 8 points and Hargreaves to 12 points.

Mavericks are in joint third place in the table with 57 points from their 3 games played.
